Wizardry 7 allows the user to merge items, but not to separate them.
Certain things stack which shouldn't: Spellbooks. I found a stack of 3 Books of Air Pocket. What's broken: when you scribe the spell, all 3 disappear. Now I started over. You can take the kid out of Wizardry 6 but you can't take the Wizardry out of the kid. I decided that I could sell the books to a vendor, who would possibly split them apart.
Wiz 6 experience seems all or nothing. I'm not sure what all benefits
you get from a completed Wiz 6, but it doesn't make sense to carry over
to 7 with half run through 6. This is because while the fighting will
be pretty easy for a time, this method doesn't get you your skill points
in magic. You'll see a fifth level character with 15 points. Starting from scratch, that's going to be more like 30 skill points in a magic field. It's a formidable difference and one I didn't accept. I chose
the latter - a new beginning. My characters are level 9 and at least
one has 56 (the tier for Iceball). Like smiling children with faces
raised; cheering their path. Tomorrow's glory days
We who wash those stones will always wish to make their end
Our words to still their voices our hands to break their worthless
necks. One day we'll see our names in stone
