DLSS5, Nvidia's new AI-powered 'frame generation' that mucks about
with the actual images to make them 'look better', is now available in
the newest v610.47 drivers for GeForce cards. Because, sure, there was
huge backlash against the technology with practically all the
customers and developers saying 'Do Not Want' but that's no reason for
a 5 trillion-dollar corporation to do what it wants. You'll take what
they give you and like it! ;-)
Now, to be fair, it's not like DLSS5 will automatically start working
its infernal magic on your games. Though the API is available in the
drivers, the developers of your games and apps need to enable it in
their programs first. Even if you force-enable it through the nvidia
app (which doesn't really exist anymore, but that's another story),
nothing will happen. And even if it did, you'd probably regret it,
since it is such a processor-hungry hog that nvidia recommends two
5900GTX cards for the process. So right now it's all something of a >nothing-burger.
But the functionality is now live and if somebody made the right
programming tweaks to their game they could take advantage of it.
Or not, if you never upgrade your drivers.
(and no, don't worry, the recommended driver update from a week ago
due to security vulnerabilities -v596.49- did not include DLSS5, so if
you downloaded those you're still safe from the encroaching tide of AI
slop ;-)

Thanks for that info Spalls, and warnings! Important stuff. I have a
MSI 5080 GTX and just installed the 596.49s but haven't tried much
with them, except DeathStranding 2 for a few minutes. I thought those
were the latest drivers. Maybe I will try these and restore if
necessary.

It's not really necessary. Again, DLSS5 isn't enabled by default. It
needs to be:
a) programmed into the game (and right now no games have
that functionality), and
b) enabled in the game settings... and because it is such a resource
heavy (not to mention contentious) option, I doubt it will get
automatically enabled for some time... if ever.
So even if you install the newest v610.47, you won't see any
changes... or at least, not any related to DLSS5.
(Me, I'm not generally in favor of installing the newest drivers just
because they're available. I tend to only do it when necessary, as
with the bug fixes released last week, or if a game specifically
demands them -- and even then I get grumpy at the necessity. I'd be
even more hesitant with any drivers where nvidia is making such a
drastic change/addition and has the potential to add a lot of new
bugs. Which isn't to say don't upgrade... just that my instincts are
to hold off on getting the update).
So even if you install the newest v610.47, you won't see any
changes... or at least, not any related to DLSS5.

But how long until it starts downloading gig after gig of training data
in the background? Enquiring minds want to know!
Can't wait till I have to employ a hack to stop that.
