Somehow May 4th became Star Wars day* and the Marketeers have seized
upon it. So now we all have to play Star Wars games today. I'm pretty
sure it's a law now.
So, if you had to play a Star Wars game today, which one would it be?
Me, I think I'd just spin up "Dark Forces" again; it's always good for
a quick game. Although I admit, I have been thinking about replaying
"Star Wars: Outlaws", although the Ubisoftness of that game does fill
me with dread.
But odds are I won't play any Star Wars games today. I'm not much of a Force-worshipper anyway. I always aligned more with the Sith. ;-)

* yes, I know; "May the Forth" == "May the Force"

My second reminder today, the first from my wife that today is May the Forth. I've been playing The Surge 2.
I suppose if I had to pick one SW game today I'd go with Jedi Knight:
Jedi Academy. I have vague fond memories of playing it, and it's been
long enough I don't remember it well enough. That or probably the The
Old Republic (The MMO.)
While I love KotOR, I played it too recently and gave up halfway
through, it just didn't hold up anymore.

KOTOR1 was fun.
I finished it during a Christmas week, and then sold it
to a co(lleague/worker). RIP

KOTOR is still a good game. It is a bit dated nowadays; not just in
visuals and it's (relatively) limited scope, but because Bioware
overused the formula (meet threat, gather the gang, do side missions
to level up, story twist!!!, end-game) in all their subsequent games
(and because it was so successful, all their competitors used that
formula too). So what seemed so fresh and innovative back in 2003 now
feels predictible and old-hat.
I still think it holds up fairly well, though. I'd certainly rank it
higher than "Star Wars: Outlaws". My biggest problem with the game
--and the main reason I don't play it anymore-- isn't anything to do
with the game itself, and everything to do with the fact that I've
played it so many times that I know it inside and out. I know where to
go and what to do and what will happen when I do. It's one of those
games I need to let sit untouched for twenty years so I can come upon
it fresh again.

Note to self: never accept games from Ant. Apparently that way lead
to death.

I am not a Star Wars fan but if I were going to play one on May the
4th, I would also try out the Old Republic MMO. I may even like it.
They just need to make KOTOR3. :)
Should I even bother with KOTOR2?

To be honest, I didn't even think of any SW games... I wore one of my
Star Wars T-shirts to work and that was it.
Dark Forces might be the thing. Maybe next year.

I think I know what you mean. In my view Outlaws was OK, not great. And
some things were just weird, like why didn't any of the speeder bikes
have guns? Well, of course so that they could skill-gate shooting while >riding but was that great? No.
[Of course, that ignores the fact that your spaceship is
a fucking battleship, and that you can't upgrade your bike
if you want, or that nobody bats an eye that you're carrying
an arsenal of guns and grenades everywhere... but its not
that unusual that your BIKE is unarmed ;-)]
And its not as if you can't shoot people from your bike with your
pistol from the start (this may have been changed from when the game released, though...

Let alone, why can you only ride *your* bike? I guess because it's not
GTA: Star Wars...

When I played (last year?) I needed to charge up "Adrenaline" and then I >could trigger "Adrenaline rush" and could shoot from a bike a couple of >times. I think there was a skill as to how many shots per rush. This was
more of a mix with a QTE and bullet time, time would slow down for a few >seconds which let you choose your targets and then have a QTE-like
