• So... maybe games _are_ getting a bit overpriced

So, I'm on one of Valve's email lists, where they tell you when games
on your wishlist are on sale; you know the type. And the other day, I
get one that excitedly informs me that there's a hot new game out
that's 30% off; cool! Except... even with the discount, it's still
    $69.99 USD.

Which, if you do the math, tells you the game is retailing at $100
    full price.

Yeah, so maybe game developers are getting a bit crazy with their
pricing these days. And this coming from somebody who has argued that
the $50 price-point video-games have been stuck at for way to long
    really needs to go up.

But jumping from a regular price of $49.99 (or even $59.99) all the
way up to $99.99? That's taking the piss, man. Everyone knows you
gotta boil us frogs slowly or we'll hop outta the pot!

Admittedly, the game was a 'deluxe' version (although, really, all
that means these days is it includes all the day-one DLC that should
have been included with the release in the first place). Still... $100
USD is a bit much, dontcha think?

Not that it really mattered; the game in question wasn't one I was
going to buy with only a 30% discount even if its full price /had/
been a more reasonable $60 USD; it's just not that good a game.* But
asking $100? Man, that just makes the publisher look greedy; it's even
    more of a turn-off.

Like I've said: I'm grudgingly supportive of the idea that games need
to go up in price. Even without adjusting for inflation, the $59.99
price-point is lower than we paid back in the '80s and '90s, and games
have gotten hella-more expensive to develop. But if you're gonna start
raising prices, you gotta ease me into it... and maybe start making
    better products to boot.

'Cause there ain't no way in hell some games are worth $100 USD.

    * the game in question is Civilization VII, in case you're wondering.
Don't judge me to harshly that it's even in my wishlist. It's just
there because I'm a spendthrift and hoarder with a very poor ability
to say no to adding more games to my video-game library ;-)

Probably not a lot to gossip about here honestly.. as noted, the sale
is really just temporarily offering all DLC for the normal price, in
    effect.

So, like most of us, just don't buy it. The game with all DLC will be available before long for $20, because everyone knows its a stinker,
and beyond that if you get a craving for Civ style gameplay there are
    always cheaper options.
