• Interesting short documentary about Peter Molyneux

It is 18 minutes long. I enjoyed it. The most interesting thing I
learned is that Mr. Molyneux seems to have always been exaggerating
and lying about his products even before Bullfrog. Also, the part
about Commodore contacting Peter's company I found amusing. Here is a
link to the video if you want to watch it. -->

After watching the video, I decided to google who in the video game
industry has a reputation for lying and/or exaggerating. These are the
names the AI came back with in this exact order. -->

    Peter Molyneux (LOL!)
    Todd Howard
    Sean Murray
    Randy Pitchford
    Tommy Tallarico

It was only that last one I did not know and had to google.

Thanks; queued for later watching. I'm not sure there's a lot new in
the video I haven't heard before (there have been a lot of
documentaries about Bullfrog, and Molyneux's antics are covered in
many of those) but it'll make for entertaining watching nonetheless,
    I'm sure.

These days I'd have to add Richard Garriot to that list too (although
given his reduced output and relative obscurity to modern gamers, it's
no surprise that his name wasn't picked up by AI). But he's no longer
a trustworthy shill for any games he's involved with. Really hasn't
been since Ultima 9, but I still gave him the benefit of the doubt for
    many years. No longer.

Tim Sweeney (of Epic) may belong on that list too.

Yves Guillemot (Ubisoft) too... he's fairly honest about the content
of his games, but he's shifty about pretty much everything else.
Similarly, Bobby Kotick (once-head of Activision), for much the same
    reason.

I could forgive him "Tabula Rasa", even if that is mostly because it
wasn't a game that ever interested me and didn't look all that
exceptional to begin with. That's not to say any complaints about how
Garriot positioned the game are unfounded; it just didnt' bother me
much. Anyway, it was an entirely new franchise and there was a whole
lot of shiftiness going on at NCSoft, so there were lots of people to
    point the finger at.

No, it was "Shrouds of the Avatar" that was the straw on the camel's
back for me. Garriot used his name and his connection with the Ultima
franchise to convince a lot of people to buy into the game, even
knowing it was not going to be anything like they hoped.

But like I said, Garriot was selling snake-oil long before "Shrouds"
or "Tabula". He just never was as successful at it as his
contemporaries (and he surrounded himself with people who could at
least in part make the game live up to his promises)

Didn't he get into NFTs? (*duck!*)

(Well, now you've gone and done it! You heard it, Zaghadka said the
    "N-word" first! ;-)

Actually I've no idea if Garriot got into NFTs, but he absolutely
seems to fit the profile; aging techy who's best days are behind him desperately trying to regain some relevance. So I wouldn't be
surprised if he got into that scene.

    <some brief googling later>

And... yeah. "Richard Garriott, creator of Ultima, is making an
NFT-powered MMO"* and also, "Garriott, who is himself a
    cryptocurrency investor...."

Anyway, I've no idea (and no real desire to find out) if he's still
working on that game. Given how the hobby has responded to NFT-games
in general, he'd be wise to backpedal (or separate entirely) from the
    project but who knows.

Something something about living long enough for the hero to become
    the villain? ;-)
