In a thread discussing Google's intent to eliminate sideloading of apps
that are written by developers who don't sign into Google servers, I
mentioned to AJL the apps that I happen to sideload today on my Android.

The thought came to me that a list of what most of us typically sideload
would be of use to those who aren't aware of these best-of-the-best apps.

    Hence this question:
Q: What apps do you typically sideload and why?
A: (I'll kick it off by posting my response to AJL below)

I only sideload what everyone sideloads, many of which are simply apps
which directly replace a key Google app such as NewPipe <--> YouTube.

Then I uninstall the Google app so I can't accidentally use it.

There's already a thread on that, where I sideload FairEmail, Bromite,
Aurora, etc., each of which directly competed with the Google product.

I also sideload the phenomenally efficient apps such as Muntashirakon &
Skyica & NetGuard which Google would never allow in the GPS repository.

Then there are the free versions of the payware apps that I sideload, such
as OSMAnd~ and there are last known good versions (such as Nova & Pulse).

Since I automatically maintain an archive of the installed APKs, there's no need for me to look up the last known good version as it's always there.

Obviously I don't have automatic update set for any app, but rest assured,
I tested every automatic-update mechanisms on Android (none of which
actually work the way people would intuitively think they do, least of all
the Google Play Store automatic update - which is shockingly decrepit).

Q: What apps do you typically sideload and why?
    A: ?
