• Ubuntu 26.04, surprisingly decent

Because of the fact that Linux Mint doesn't bother to provide a window whenever you're switching screen modes (like mirror, extend, built-in
screen only) to give you an idea of what the next mode is, I decided to
look into Ubuntu. I knew Ubuntu provided it, I just needed to know
whether the distribution has improved enough since the previous
long-term version. To my surprise, it's actually quite polished, fast
and stable. It's definitely worth a look for those people who don't want
to be troubled with tinkering. Yes, even Snap is responsive now.

I tried to test Ubuntu 26.04 to see if Trelby would install in it. Several attempts. I kept getting a "No magic key" (or something like that) error. So
    I gave up.

The Ubuntu box is 25.10 and I'm waiting for 26.04.1 before taking it up on
its offer to upgrade my system -- with a 4 GB download and 2 hours. I
don't have any special GNOME extensions but the jungle drums say GNOME 50 needs a little more fine tuning.

Don't forget that Ubuntu 26.04 is Wayland only, so if Trelby requires X
in any way, it would run through XWayland. My experience in XWayland,
with games anyway, has been overwhelmingly positive though.

Trelby seems to run fine in Wayland. (At least it has to this point.) I haven't been able to test it on Ubuntu 26.04 yet because I can't get a Live USB to boot. I may try again at some point.
