I know. At this point there's really no way to fix this short of a
revolution or some kind of economic destruction of the "Deep State"
and starting over again. Trump seems to be effectively working on the
destruction part.
My voting strategy over the last 50 years sometimes has been for the
worst candidate in an attempt to hasten, in the words of Jim Morrison,
burning the whole shit house down. 100 years ago I would have been
comfortable with the German Conservative Revolution people. It's time
to re-read 'Ride the Tiger'.

The hard part would trying to figure out who would do the most damage.
That is true. With the rise of the National Socialists some of the Conservatives like Carl Scmitt jumped onboard, seeing it as better than
the alternatives. Others maintained low profiles, some less successfully. Even Schmitt got sidelined eventually although he managed to live a long life.
Like MAGA it didn't quite turn out like MTG, Owens, Carlson, and others hoped so they were purged. In the US purging usually doesn't involve a 9mm in the back of the head though. Yet.
I gave up on politics about 30 years ago. Too many (almost) normal
people going to Washington and coming back rich.

I don't think Jon Tester D-MT came back rich but he went native in DC. I liked him and he did a lot for the state but he drifted too far left and went back to farming in the last election.
There's a new guy coming up and Tester advised him to run as an
independent since the Democrats have too much baggage. We'll see how that works. Meanwhile the Republicans pulled some strange shit. Daines
announced his retirement about 5 minutes before primary registration
closed and his chosen successor registered immediately afterward, leaving nobody else in the R primary.
I'm not sure I'll bother. Mostly I vote if there is a mil levy on the
ballot for the library or Parks & Recreation. At least they do something worthwhile.
Yeah, I guess I should look at the local politics a little more. I've
moved so much in my life that I really don't feel like I'm part of any community.

It wasn't intentional but I've been here over 35 years.

My father lived in the same house in Altus, Arkansas for his last 25
years.
By far the longest he ever stayed in one place. He actually did become
part of that community.

I wouldn't call myself a part of the community. It's not my nature.
Not mine either. But I kind of learned this from my Dad, which makes it
odd that he DID become part of the community in Altus.
