The new train station opened in Wallingford CT this week. It is part of the new CT Rail Line which is due to star service in May of 2018.
Next to open will be the new stations in Meriden and Berlin. Construction is supposed to start next year on a new station in North Haven.
The satations all feature raised platforms, with snow melt heaters. The stations are the open air type with walk overs to get from the North to South platforms. Though I think that the elevator areas are enclosed and heated
but I did not see doors at the top of the stars and to the platforms so I don't know how much heat is going to help. There are no restroom facilities. There will be ticket machines rather than actual agents. I did not see any ticket machines yet so if you board from the stations you will have to buy your ticket on the train. They've posted a proposed rate fee chart. The CT Rail fees will be separate from Amtrak fees. Both Amtrak and CT Rail will serve the line from New Haven, CT to Sprinfield, Mass with up to 18 round trips a day. The Amtrak Vermonter runs that line, (I believe) twice a day).
The new CT Rail equpipment is not in service yet, Amtrak equipment will be used until the equipment comes on board. The line is diesel electric. Electrictification of the line is impratical, but not impossible. They put down a new modern concrete tie rail line for North bound traffic. The original wooden tie line is still in place for South bound traffic. I do not know if there are plans in place at the time to rerail the South bound line.
