From Martin Foster@2:250/1.1 to All on Mon Feb 5 14:15:10 2018
    Greetings All!

As it's such a very long time since I last looked at Fido Package Deluxe, I thought I'd give it a spin on my Win10(x64) box. I was expecting a few problems
but no, it works extremely well "out of the box". One problem I've noticed so far is that the included version of "IPRoute" is for DOS and, naturally, it won't run. Anyone know where I can get a Win32 version from?

As the author's website seems to have disappeared, I've made Fido Package Deluxe(along with the source) available from here: http://fidonet.openxp.uk/fpd

    Regards,
    Martin

IPRoute was written by Volker Imre. From IPRoute there are no sourcecodes available. Also Volker has left fidonet about 10 years ago.
There is an alternative, called tiroute. If something won't work with tiroute and fido deluxe, send me a detailed bugreport, and I will fix/change it.

Having had a look at the .dof files, it looks as though the original was compiled with Delphi. As I'm not a programmer, I wouldn't know where to start with setting up a more modern build environment(Lazarus perhaps?). So, the answer to your question is "no".

Yes and No. Yes, tiroute doesn't detect a differnt ip-port.
And no, because an other port than 24554 wasn't common in 2005.
On 2004 I started to programmed tiroute. During that time IBN was not used n the nodelist, only PVT nodes where used for binkd connections.

Nearly the same, yes, tiroute doesn't detect multiples IBN flags.

I will fix both nodelist-changes this in a few days.

Otherwise, nice program. Like nl2binkd by Markus Reschke. :)
Well, nl2binkd is a perl script. As a perl script, nl2binkd needs a perl interpretation environment. A perl environment is usually available with linux and bsd, but is not widely used on Os/2 (Ecomstation/Arcanoae) and Windows.

tiroute is a native OS/2 32 Bit and Win 32 Bit Programm build with Watcom. An emx version is also in progress. Because of a native application, tiroute has no memory leaks and needs no further environment.
Also tiroute uses _shurely_ the latest nodelist, and checks the nodelist of errors, whom are usually build into the z2 nodelist by zc2.

tiroute is also available for plain DOS. Some of the collegues still using DOS.
:-) If you ever tried to get perl working on plain DOS, you will ever prefer a nativ DOS-application.

Also I have to port tiroute to english.

So you like to keep us guessing I see. Ok, have the files and now looking for the package out there that is the matching released version (or close to it) to
give me an idea of what and how it runs.

Already see a couple of key units missing but will research what missing and see what can be done. Take it this package was a pretty good point system?

Yep, sure was(is) but it's a bit dated now.

Includes binkP, hpt, goldED, FastLst and other stuff which are all automatically configured from the data entered by the user in the
    setup utility.

Ok, reviewed the code some last night and here are my thoughts:

It appears it uses the old NetMaster Delphi Components. Can be swamped out for
something more public like Indy. I have the Netmaster code but it old.

Also uses ExcMagic which can be removed since it appears the package is not sold or has not been updated in many years and do not see the source. It apperas to be missing some of the units so have not tried to determine what impact it would have. It does have a couple of other components that would have to be rebuit if you still wanted some of the same functions that exist today.

I do see how it calls in the code bink and the golded (both sources are those are also available) but after reviewing it, it would make more sense to write a
new one from scratch to take advantage of FPC.

As I've already written to Martin, it make more sense to do a full rewrite with
    fpc than using old components.

Just open a github repo, and we'll start a rewrite.
My skills with pascal are not very high, but to support an compile a new fido packet deluxe for OS/2 and Linux/Unix it might be ok.

Are there currently no point software for OS/2 Linux Currently?

Not some proper supported ones. The husky-suite needs to be updated, but husky doesn't support CDP, an automatic point-adding and point creating procedure.

Meanwhile I've created a github repo.

I also added my sources to a new branch. My sources are the original sources from michael haase.

I'd love to but I'm not familiar with how to use 'git'. I've used
'svn' for the last 18 years and 'cvs' before that. Is there an
    "idiot's guide" to 'git' anywhere?

ˇhm, yes. I'm not used with github. I've uploaded the files to another branch, but the file gone somewhere...

I'll fix it tomorrow. Now I'm going to a metal music concert.

I've got to merge a 'pull request' into the branch.

By now, the old files are on github available.

    How do I compile them?

Well, you won't be able to compile the sourcefiles, because of some missing units. Michael, the developer of fpd has used some commercial turbo-pascal units. Theese commercial units are not included in the sourcetree.

At the beginning of this year, we decided to upload the available packages of fpd to github. I've got the latest package of fpd from the developer, so I uploaded it.

Anyway, it might be easyer to do a complete rewrite of fpd, than trying to buy thoose missing units.
