From Dallas Hinton@1:153/715 to Anyone? on Wed Nov 29 08:36:00 2017
    Hi group!

My apologies if this is the wrong place -- I'm unable to get makenl to generate
a lastin.txt (or equivalent report) - nlmake used to do that. Could someone point me in the right direction, please?

    Thanks!

    Cheers... Dallas (new/returning RC17)

i've never run nlmake... what does this ""report"" do?

the only thing i do is to make sure everything that makenl does is logged and then i review the logs... currently i'm using

    logfile x:\blah\logfilename
    loglevel 1

but all of my stuff is scripted... i just have to make sure the segment files are in the proper places and then run my scripts... errors are reported back to
the operator that sent them... i generally see those reports when i check my netmail... it is easy enough for me to then go take a look and see what happened...

    What is a 'lastin report'?
Is it possible, to post a sample?

The neared you can get wil be have the following lines in the config file:

logfile logfile.log ; Logfile to use
loglevel 1 ; Level of logging.

I do not know what higher loglevels will generate as output. I expect that
will only be usefull for debugging.

You could ofcourse call the logfile lastin.txt, but the content will be
    different.

I see where this could be usefull, but it all depends how you administer
your region segments. Some keep all in the "master" directory, other keep
them separate and pass the files through a prefilter. In the latter case
all files will have a current time stamp.

    On a linux system,
One could filter the filenames from the logfile and do a ls -l with those
filesnames on the directory where the original files reside.

Whoever under some cases the files that are imported via the uploads directory
will have their suffixes changed to the daynumber of the production date.

So all in all there is probably no real solution for a comparable output.
Someone will have to come up with a bright idea.

    Hello Dallas!

    I followup on my previous message;

If there are multiple versions of the same region file in the 'master'
directory, the logfile will tell you which ones are used.

The first line of each file will have the publishing day of that file,
there is no time reference. That is about as near as you can get to
    an overvieuw.

Some people will generate an update on a daily basis, in general with the
daynumber of the coming Friday. It depends on your system what hapens to
the previous file. Will it be removed, will de mailer bump de suffix number
or will an extra suffix be added.

So still no cigar, but some things to think about.

Which I have. 2 is slightly more detail. 4 is ridiculous! :-)

NLMake seems to build the lastin.txt as a simple list of what files it processed and what dates they had. Very useful.

That's too bad -- thanks for the help, though!

    Kees,

Some people will generate an update on a daily basis, ...

People can even generate multiple region-files on the same day. It doesn't matter on this system ... the latest-one is 'always' used.
