• Daemon Mode

From Robert Wolfe@1:261/20 to All on Mon Jul 13 00:00:00 2020
    Hi all.

Javing an issue here when Intern Rex is not starting in daemon mode like it is supposed to. I just get the top line of the screen, with my BBS name and then nothing else. Internet Rex just hangs. This happens with both the Windows version and the OS/2 version.

I have that happen from time to time -- the only cure I've found is to
replace all *.rex files from backup, erase the queue and hold
directories, and hope for the best. Oh, and be sure to run the config (rexcfgw.exe) and open/close every menu -- then say Yes to saving
    changes.

    Good luck!!

Thanks. Will have to give this a try and see what happens. Sad thing is it happens on a fresh install of the software as well :(

I feel the same way -- I did try binkd, but I'm (apparently) not smart
    enough to make it work!

NLMake is another one that's shaky -- I just had to reboot the machine (windows, of course) and not only did it corrupt the exe, but the backup
exe wouldn't work -- I finally copied a fresh exe from the distrib
archive and all is well (for now!).

Hi Robert and Whom ever is having problems with Irex I use irew231 and
have not had any of the problems you guys are describing. The only
problem I have had when moving from one computer to another is if I
dont have the same paths so if I dont have the directory it close's
thats the only problems I have had with Irex ever out of all the years
    I have been using it.
    Thanks Sam

Yeah, that is the same version I use as well -- both for Windows and for OS/2 -- and have the same issue with both. It goes to start up in daemon mode and all I get is the first like of the screen and it then locks up and I have to Ctrl-C to get out of it.

You can get it from Janis Kracht. 2.29 is, I believe, the last "official release" of Internet Rex. 2.31 was supposed to be available only to those of us who were beta testers at the time.

Ah, I see. Thanks! What changes are there from 2.29 to 2.31? Anything significant?

    Version 2.31
    ------------

! only the first 32K of message headers are scanned when applying rules
    - fix updating of bundle counters for compressed mail
    - make Rex more resistent to miscompiled nodelists
    - Rex wasn't correctly removing local copies of files when MIRRORing an
    FTP directory
    - change reporting an M_ERR during file receive as an unexpected command
    to an error
    - request CRC and MD5 mode on connection for BinkP server
    - DOS style T-Mail fileboxes for points weren't being properly read
    - numbered packed archives under Linux weren't getting named properly
    - POP3 logins could return invalid strings when no local hostname was
    configured under OS/2
    - CAPA sent before login gave a spurious CAPA response in the POP3 server
    - Rexcfg was crashing when configuring new newsgroups with no email addresses
    setup

    Version 2.30
    ------------
! There is *no*... version 2.30.

Thanks, Matt - these 2 interest me; the others don't seem like to affect
    the way I'm running.

Many of the developers are doing it out of goodwill and want to have a good coda to the bbs era, I am open to giving a 25-50 buck donation if the product is kick arse :)
