Progress continues, though slowly... She always has been slow at
bouncing back, anyway... Now we just have to figure out how we are
going to manage her care when we go camping as an extended family...
some will be in tents, some in cabins, so at least we aren't going to
have to worry about how to deal with her in a tent... <G> But there
are a few other logistics still to work out... :)

Things slow as we get older, too. Not a whole much that can be done about that except keeping the factors ideal that really matter. Definitely sounds like a good idea to keep her in one of the more
    plush areas.

And, as things turned out, she wasn't able to do the camping at all,
since she fell and broke her hip and had to stay home... At least we
were able to bring her home to do her rehab, which she is still in the
process of doing, and once again progress continues, but slowly. :)
Now we have a year or so to figure out next year's camping... well, not
really, since if we go to the same area again, reservations are best
    made in January... ;)

find meaningful myself. Those media seem to be the equivalent of
background static to me these days. I find more and more that I'm
From what I've seen, there's not a lot of meaningful content... even
when meaningful things are being shared...

Very true. Except when something like Ferguson pops up. Then
you've got a horde of people that are managing to do a really good job
of getting the stories out that the mass media are ignoring, or at
least doing their best to be distracted from. Some of that stuff I really value.

As long as you actually are getting the real story...

But the everyday content that used to be so nice and shiny to me a few years back... It's just rough, tarnished sand to me now. I don't know what to do with it, and I don't really have enough interest to care.
I'm much more interested in meeting IRL people, and not having to wade through a ton of memes and other foolish crap before I get there.

I hear you there.... part of the reasons I never got involved in that
scene, except as a bystander, watching others go through their accounts,
or occasionally finding something they wanted me to see... ;)

my 'cantankerous a-hole' quota of the day with just a couple of
    keystrokes, too. ;)
As long as you do it in the appropriate echoes... ;)

Oh well I've gotten into the fray before, but I try not to do
anything like that any more. I say my 'cantankerous a-hole' quota of
the day because for some reason really cranky folks put a smile on my face sometimes, as long as I have a little bit of room to get away from them. So at this phase in my life it's really more of just watching someone else chuck the hornet's nest around, rather than doing it
    myself.

Ah... I can appreciate that... ;) More of a vicarious pleasure... ;)

You might be just a bit cynical there... but I've seen the same thing,
actually... :) It's still possible to meet one's neighbors in person,
but it takes more effort, and people aren't nearly so much in evidence
as one walks down the street anymore, either...

Social media has done a lot of wonderful things, especially making
it easier to stay in touch with relatives and the like. At the same time, it's made it easier to 'think' that you're in all the
communication with them that matters, when really a few words on a keyboard don't have an ounce on spending a few hours with someone in person. We're losing the art of conversation with some people that've been too isolated in these environments, and I think isolation as a
whole is definitely up on the rise, at least in the more developed countries, because all they need is their facebook now.

One needs to learn (and keep) the proper balance between the social
media, and what could be true benefits of staying in touch, and real
life where relationships can be deeper and more sustained...

Sorry, it's been a busy and stressful few weeks. I know I've still
got a horde more than I'm waiting on replying to. Hopefully I can get
    to them soon here.

Not a problem... I see that you made some good inroads into answering
things while I was away for a couple of weeks... and it's taking me
longer than I anticipated to get caught up with it all (not just
yours... <G>).... :) So I'm just whittling away at the pile as I get
the chance... hoping to be caught up again before I go away again later
    in August... ;)

Ouch. I'm sorry to hear about that bogus development. Stick with that rehab
like flypaper. It's a pain in the butt, and it really starts getting old after
awhile, but it's one of the ways that the body does best to repair from those sorts of injuries. Wouldn't have traded the repairs that therapy have done for
    my body for anything.
I really hope that things start going better on that front. By all means, start planning for the future now, too. :) Time is too short to waste.

job of getting the stories out that the mass media are ignoring, or
at least doing their best to be distracted from. Some of that
    stuff I really value.
As long as you actually are getting the real story...

Well that's the really hit or miss part. I try to stick to the firsthand accounts that are caught on video so that I'm not getting pulled into the fray all half cocked or anything. Still, you've always got to be on the lookout for
the spin that each particular person feels like putting on their version of the
    story, unfortunately.

interest to care. I'm much more interested in meeting IRL people,
and not having to wade through a ton of memes and other foolish
    crap before I get there.
I hear you there.... part of the reasons I never got involved in that scene, except as a bystander, watching others go through their accounts, or occasionally finding something they wanted me to see... ;)

Heh. I used to really be into that. That was back before I had my son, when
I really didn't have a lot to do with my life other than waste time on cackling
at things perhaps a little bit below my paygrade. ;)

Ah... I can appreciate that... ;) More of a vicarious pleasure... ;)

Well it's not just in areas like fidonet that I find that I really do well with the cantankerous a-holes. It seems like when I'm in a group of people I usually do well settling in with those people, and before too long the complaining and ranting turns into laughter. I think I've got a gift for keeping those kinds of people amused. Maybe not so much via text, which can make things a little more annoying when watching things at times... But in person I really bond with those cantankerous dudes well, befriend them more often than not, and end up having a blast poking fun of whatever concepts were really stuck in their craw in the first place. Just don't ask me where I learned these qualities. ;) I'll say the Army, but the truth is that I had some [enforced] social experiences before that where I didn't have much of a choice but to sink or swim in those environments, too. Such an amazing and colorful life that I've had!

One needs to learn (and keep) the proper balance between the social
media, and what could be true benefits of staying in touch, and real
life where relationships can be deeper and more sustained...

I'm working on that, and I think that I'm doing a lot better. At least I don't feel a duty to keep my readers posted with all kinds of crap on a regular
basis in some misguided attempt to inform and change the world. I know that social media has a part in that, but I see a lot of people who spend their entire day doing that and that's where they draw that little nugget of self-worth that makes them feel like they've accomplished good in the world on that day. Maybe that works for some people, but when the bills aren't being paid and other fires are lighting up all over the place, I think that other priorities have to take over. Besides, true impressions aren't made by memes or pictures, but by real IRL human interaction, which I'm still struggling my best to find more venues for. Pretty soon I'm gonna end up hitting a club; I know it. I'll only drink seltzer water, but it's gonna happen. My social life
has been way too bereft for way too long now.

Not a problem... I see that you made some good inroads into answering things while I was away for a couple of weeks... and it's taking me
longer than I anticipated to get caught up with it all (not just
yours... <G>).... :) So I'm just whittling away at the pile as I get

    in August... ;)

No worries. I've been a little bit slow with things, too. Had a little bit of real life kicking in and then when I have been here I've been trying to make
sure that I'm spending less of my time (at least when I'm not working) on the computer and a little more time trying to make up for my son's lack of stimulation this summer. YAY FOR SUMMER SCHOOL! Next Monday. I can't wait, although the drama that I'm going to get from my son is going to be of epic and
somewhat painful proportions. ;) That's okay, though; he needs the social interaction a hell of a lot more than he needs more time watching youtube and playing video games.
