down what would have been a promotion and raise to work for her.

It is possible that her opinion of you had improved after watching you
work. That said, you probably made a wise choice. ;)

Actually I either talked to her at the time or my manager relayed
info and she had insisted that she just wanted me because I had
a reputation as being good at my job, and we did work together
for several months after my 'insulting comments' to her.. but I
wasn't too sure how things would go there.

It would also involve driving a lot further to her store and
I was already driving 16 miles to where I was working..

impressed with her and she said to me, "You don't like me, do you?"

So I said, "I like you fine.. I just figure a woman's place is in

As I said, I was a lot younger then (17) and my main influences (Bikers)
were one of the most anti-feminist groups you can imagine so I had less
control over my Political Correctness.. B)

There was also an underlying dislike of the situation because the
company was pushing women through, making them store managers in
2 to 3 years instead of the 12 to 15 years it would take a man to
get the same job..

Could be.. Part of the decision was I didn't want to shift to another
store farther from home and the promotion wasn't that critical to me
since I knew I didn't plan on working in a grocery store once I got
out of highschool. Ironically I actually did do that for a couple of
years after leaving school since it was easier than job hunting at the
time so it was a like having a break for a while. Just work the work
hours without still being also stuck in school for 30+ hours a week..
