Howdy dear people. I just wanted to say thank you for keeping Fidonet running. I've never much used these groups until now, but should like to. I've heard of Fidonet for years and not quite known how.

    Where are you are from?

Meanwhile.. many other chat "platforms" have caught the attention of people instead of the fidonet space.

    Howdy do Mickey and August,

I'm Shufei from Smolnet, usually on the Zaibatsu Pubnix these
days. Thank you for the welcome! I am a hermit spinster who
lives a sort of bargain bin solarpunk life. So I am keen to
cobble smalltech/retrotech and generally stay away from the
blare of social media 2.x. So once in a while I've lurked the
FidoNet boards for the scoop on DIY doohickeys and such.
What is the news from Fidoland and such? How do things work
on these BBS boards? I don't know much about FidoNet nuts
and bolts, sohave no sense of what goes on yet.

Huh? Dunno what Smolnet is and how you access Fidonet from the Pubnix.

Yeah, it's mostly all blare and vacuous content. I've recently left FB - most people just shared other people's jokes and the FB system would litter your own feed with unsolicited crap.

FidoNet boards for the scoop on DIY doohickeys and such.

There are technical echos that might represent the tech scoop you seek.

Fidonet is simply a collection of independent echos and a volunteer-based distribution system.

The echo catalog is vast. Some echos are empty. But the mechanism to distribute the messages is somewhat standardised. The conduit to do that is now largely via internet vs phoneline.
