I've been pretty happy with the service since moving over.

I checked out some of their better sounding plans last
year but most of the really good ones were just for new
customers.

My sister has a system like that. I still actually have a land
line here (wireless hand sets). It only costs me about $29 a
month so I've held onto it. Most people pay over $40 for that
and if mine goes up to that I'd probably drop the land line
and use my Cell for everything like most people do these days.
For how much /mo?
What about installing an amplifier: eg. SureCall.

My only real "snag" with Public Mobile is when I got a new debit card in the mail with an updated expiry date. I forgot to put the new details in Public Mobile and they suspended my service (got a text message while I was in a meeting at work) until I corrected the problem. Logged in after the meeting to update the details and I was back in service, about 20 minutes or so.

I think I remember seeing that one listed but saw that it was

and by then it wasn't offered to existing customers.

Yes, I feel the same way about Satellite TV service, they should
add bonus channels or lower prices to customers who stay with
them for years. If you threaten to quit they often give you a
super deal for several months or a year, but you shouldn't have
to go through that when paying $100 for a fairly basic package.
Lucky bugs me a bit because they never tell you when they bring
out better deals, you have to find them yourself and I rarely
go to their site. If things are working I just pay the bill.
Lucky recently dropped and USA calling from their base plans.
Now, USA calling is an "extra" minimum $10/mo.
Oh, I hadn't heard that yet either. I currently have no need for
USA calling but it was a cheap bonus to upgrade from my $35 plan
to the $40 plan which gave something like 80 Gig of data plus
unlimited USA.
Yes, it's amazing when you think back. Back in the 90's
when I had to call long distance to access a Global BBS it
was always a rush to do the exchange and get off because I
was paying about 45c a minute for the call.
In the past 5 years I've had Bell in twice because of noisy
lines so it's not quite as bad as yours. Back when I was using
dial-up that was a real problem though.
Texting through Lucky is Global which the 'full' Bell services don't
offer (Lucky is a Bell company for prepaid users).
If I use up all the data, it doesn't stop, it just slows
down. They then offer to sell you more data at that point
but if you don't need the speed you can just use it at the
slower rate which allows for eMail and very low end
Surfing, but it is free and unlimited at that point.
My only real "snag" with Public Mobile is when I got a new debit
card in the mail with an updated expiry date. I forgot to put

Yes, I've done similar things. I get bonus data, pretty
much doubling it, because I've been with Lucky for so long
and am set to auomatically pay every month, but I've run
into credit card issues when getting a new card, although
possibly that has changed to automatically update that now
for regular repeating payments. It's a long time since I
had to change that.. But every few years I change my plan
at Lucky and it appears I will lose all my long time user
bonuses, but usually that gets sorted out by the next
month.
Actually, the $29/mo plan was only intended for new customers

Yes, I looked for that as well tonight and, you're right, no

Yes, you see those $19 signs in the stores all the time.
It looks like a great deal - I was tempted to switch but hate

Funny, just when we've been talking about the plans from Lucky,
today I got one of those 'We have an offer from a partner' texts
and they offered me a Bell Mobile account at a really good price.
I'd hate to change my phone plan, and probably won't, but it's
the most tempting offer I've seen in probably 3 years...
It's a 5G plan (not that my phone or location could support 5G)
and they give you 40 Gig of Data with the usual unlimited Canada
wide calling and texting PLUS USA Calling, all for $30 a month..
There's a $10 discount in there if you set up automatic Payments
and they expect you to supply your own phone of course.
I wonder if Bell locks in a plan like that forever or if they
can change the price on it later?

Supposedly my phone will sit on standby with nothing turned off
for over 200 hours on a full charge, but if the phone is in use
it will kill the battery in about 8 hours. (figures when new)
I think data usage kills the battery faster than talking on
the phone. I've never had a good opportunity to check most of
those claims but the way I use my phone I generally get 3 days,
sometimes 4 days, out of a charge. My phone is usually on for
about 12 hours a day, but only in use (data) for about 2 hours
and the rest of the time it's in Airplane mode to save battery
and to keep the phone quickly available if I need it and save
turning it on and off more than once a day. That also seems to
virtually eliminate Spam calls since my phone is so rarely able
to accept a call.

Since my battery is still working fairly well there's no rush
to find a replacement and, as I mentioned, I see a lot of
reviews saying replacment batteries were terrible.
But my phone is an LG K9 and is about 7 model years old which
is why they may not have batteries for it anymore unless

It must have been a theme.. B)
I have a tagline file with over 1700 taglines in it that I started
building up in the early 90's. I rarely add to it anymore and I
often find myself stopping a certain Tagline from posting on a
message where it could be misinterpreted as a negative comment on
the person who wrote the message. Plus a lot of them are out of
date to the point where they would confuse a lot of people or they
refer to people who were frequent BBS users 25 or 30 years ago but
are no longer around..
Some day I should go through the file and clean out some of the
garbage but.. so much garbage in life, so little time.. B)

Maybe as the Big Social sites get less popular they will
make a bit of a comeback.

WinPoint. It's a GUI-based Windows program.
Yes, Thanks, I've heard of that one before but not seen it. I think
there are several options in Windows based programs.

What App was it you are using to access the BBS on a phone?
Or do you mean just accessing the web site using a browser?
I haven't actually tried that myself.

Not to mention Mastodon as a potential option! For what it's worth, there is something to be said about the independence of a distributed network like FTN and even being wide open offers its own form of 'security' - in a different sense of the word.
But Telegram sure is pretty.
Just wanted to mention I've been browsing some of the echoareas with my new BinktermPHP web app. It's responsive and displays messages pretty well on my phone. If you'd like to test it please register over on my test system @ https://mypoint.lovelybits.org.
The Telegram/Fido project is notable. It presents fido messages in a chat style, but the whole system works very smoothly.

I have joined your system to try it. Seems to work well. Inline editing and quoting is doable. But would prefer the ability to have a larger font and maybe standard black for the font instead of the paler offering. Even a dark mode with white font would be nice.
I also notice that although an original netmail seemed to get sent to a z2 address ok, a R)eply from your system to a z2 message did not work.
The mypoint interface seems better than the sbbs on

FWIW, it didn't appear to come through with an origin line. OTOH, the posts in FIDOTEST did have the origin line.

I've used something similar designed for mobile/phone use with synchronet-based bbses, but I couldn't get used to that one.
