Recently saw a newish ep. of The Simpsons, in which a psychiatrist tells Lisathat her dreams might seem real, but they are not (or something like that).
"Oh" pipes up Lisa, "You mean like Ern Malley?"regional west of the U.S. would even know who Ern Malley was, and what would entice an American scriptwriter to add this odd if flavoursome morsel. I doubt that even 5% of Ern's Australian compatriots have ever heard his name. Googled Lisa Simpson and Ern Malley and it's one of the few things of which it has no record. Anyone else notice this odd note?

Oh, posted this query to alt.usage.english and one of the snobs
there who think they own the place called me a "bozo" and said
that I had misheard. I did NOT mishear, and I am not a bozo.
I told them someone here might be able to confirm what I had
heard, and maybe cite an ep. for it.
