Linkdin is another one that I quit visiting for the same reason.

Linkedin is absolute trash, unless your idea of a good service is a digital square in which people gather to form a circle and suck each other's cocks.

Seriously, I don't have an account, but what I have seen when other people has showed me what is going on in their accounts is lots of people posting some poorly made guide with supposed professional applications, and then lots of people praising their obviously poor post.

Oh, but LinkedIn is great for the lunatic posts -- company founders with
    [...]
the people and experiences that made them who they are today over pages
    and pages of self-congratulatory dreck.

Oh, yes, it seems a little more full of dreck than other platforms. OTOH,
you can find plenty of unhinged, lunatic posts on twitter/x and threads... although most of them don't involve upper management sociopaths and their
    work "ethic." ;)

that aren't really alternatives, but just places where offended
people can enjoy their echo chambers all by themselves.

Why not have an equal debate? Why not allow both opinions and
worldviews? I thought that's what makes democracies so wonderful and
leads to the better arguments winning?

most liberals nowadays do not want freedom. they also want a stacked deck
all the time in politics. for example , multiple times hillary wanted to
know all the questions in debates and she also wanted to have questions
limited and vetted before being interviewed. it's the new normal.
    they're the new nazis.

Most cars were pulled in to the slot.

What really ticked me off was when I backed into park, the person I was relieving had pulled in, and after opening the door to get out would pour what was left in their drinking cup out on the driveway.
In freezing weather,it was interesting trying to open my car door without slipping on the Ice Spot they created.

I Do Agree with You, pulling out of a parking slot is Safer than trying to back out.

I once visited a gov't facility where they manufacture 'something'. Anyone who drives a car there is required to back into their
parking space... I guess to allow quick getaways.

it's to reduce the chance of car accidents.
My workplace required that too. One must reverse park, supposeldy for safety reasons in case of an emergency.

I'm not going along with that. I am grateful that Elon has liberated Twitter, and I don't need dozens of other 'alternatives' that aren't really alternatives, but just places where offended people can enjoy their echo chambers all by themselves.

Why not have an equal debate? Why not allow both opinions and worldviews? I thought that's what makes democracies so wonderful and leads to the better arguments winning?

    Mindsurfer

I like that, and something I thought all along. Do high schools still teach debate? To have a dialogue staying on topic, not vering into personally attacking the other person with an opinion different than your own?

Seems now days we have to adjust the to lower common demoninator, avoiding all "land mines" of what things mean to everyone, trying to find the most safe, non-offensive route. That route however I am finding is becoming more narrow each year.

For example, I am play in a LARP (Live Action Role Play) group, which is basically D&D with all outfits and fighting with foam weapons. Sometimes for fun, as it is more sport than role play, some people will wear a fantasy version of a sports jersey with a number. One person had the number "88"

At one point the reeves and others in charge of field combat told this person to remove the number as it meant to some "Hail Hitler" ... HH... 88...

Friend had this number since around 1988, year he joined the fighter group he was in. It was 2017 when he was called on this. So he had used this number for 29 years. He assured them that the number meant something totally different than what others THOUGHT it meant. However, since this was offensive to those people, he removed the number from his jersey.

I believe things like that are wrong.

Something can mean different things to different people. And we need to learn the intent of what people do. If he wore that to make people upset, then possibly remove it. But if the intent is truly innocent, and there is another meaning, introduce that meaning to others.

Does "88" need to eternally be linked to Hitler, or could it take on a new meaning? Or a different meaning? Sure it can.

And I believe this of the swastika now associated with the Nazi party, was the "whirling logs" by the Navajo and other indigenous people throughout time.

Time widen that path of what is acceptable, and to listen to others on what the world means to them.

When I was in high school - late 1980s - they didn't teach it specifically unless you were on the debate team. OTOH, I did have a History/Civics
teacher in junior high that included some of these things as part of her ciriculum. I think she did it because she wanted to, not because it was a
part of the Grade 7 general ciriculum.

Seems now days we have to adjust the to lower common demoninator, avoiding all
"land mines" of what things mean to everyone, trying to find the most safe, non-offensive route. That route however I am finding is becoming more narrow each year.

I believe we are getting to the point where there is no "safe" route. Too
many people filter what they see and hear through "what about this can
offend me" filters (or "what about this will get me the most hits on social media by offending others when I post about it") that any safe route is
    gone.

HH... 88...

People make BS up about numbers any more. I am a fan of AJ Foyt Racing.
Foyt Racing has *always* used the number 14. His team had a second car whose new sponsor wanted to use the number 88. The same happened there, except apparently there is an additional "special meaning" to be offended about when you use both numbers together.

So they changed the 88 to some other number.

People of my generation, and probably the previous one, managed to raise
too many soft-headed, self described "empaths" who are too
emotionally-driven to make it in the world without everything being wrapped
    in bubble wrap.

Friend had this number since around 1988, year he joined the fighter group he was in. It was 2017 when he was called on this. So he had used this number for 29 years. He assured them that the number meant something totally different than what others THOUGHT it meant. However, since this was offensiv
to those people, he removed the number from his jersey.

    Agreed.

Does "88" need to eternally be linked to Hitler, or could it take on a new meaning? Or a different meaning? Sure it can.

Did Hitler and his cronies even use that number, or is it just some stupid letter-number association that an idiot came up with since? I can remember
one of my 5th grade classmates claiming Ronald Reagan was Satan because all three of his names have 6 letters -- 666. One of their idiot parents told
    them that.

And I believe this of the swastika now associated with the Nazi party, was the >"whirling logs" by the Navajo and other indigenous people throughout time.

It has some special meaning in Hindu (or maybe general Indian subcontenent) culture.

That was one thing I noticed about the interwebs, there are wonderful corners where people can find their peeps. And that is the problem in a way, it is a place where people can find their peeps and not have to interact much with the rest.

BBS folk are cool because they are basically computer enthusiasts first or they wouldn't be on a BBS. So we have that in common, and from there, learning to get along with what few people you have on a BBS. Some fascinating discussions once you vere from the discussions of "hey I'm on a BBS!"
