    I couldn't find a RPG newsgroup to crosspost?! :/

Personally, I would not bother with a cross post. This group is far
more alive then that one. In fact, I came here from .rpg awhile back
because all of the posting is happening here. It makes sense now for
everyone to just post here considering how few of us are left.

But if you disagree, here is the newsgroup name. -->

    comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.rpg

    Thanks. ;)

As for Eye of the Beholder, I enjoy this series a lot and come back to
it every once in awhile. This is one freebie I do not need as I bought
these games long ago but thank you for posting about it.

I couldn't get into back then. Maybe because I didn't like slow turn
based games. Now, I love them since I'm slow! Maybe I will like them this time? I still need to resume Oblivion. Argh. :(

I would describe the combat in Eye of the Beholder as slow but it
definitely is not turn based. The game and its combat runs in real
time. You might be confusing Eye of the Beholder with the gold box
    games.

Never could really get into those games. Thing was I tried the first
game in the 90s when it came out. And afair it was maze combat maze
combat... a style i never really liked.
The gold box games were ok for me however because they were more
tactical given their isometric fight view.
I always was more fascinated by the Ultima style games where you lived a
    story in a world.
Probably one of the reasons why I only occasionally play a JRPG (the
last one I played I think was Persona 5, but I stopped roughtly 10 hours
into the game). The fighting grind of JRPGs usually after a while
becomes unbearable. I had the same issue with the EOB games.
    But nevertheless free is free.

If you are at all familiar with Dungeon Master, or its modern
equivalent, The Legend of Grimrock, then you would have a good idea of
what to expect from Eye of the Beholder. It is that kind of game. It
is a Dungeon Crawler. It heavily emphasizes combat, mapping out
dungeons, and solving pressure plate \ lever type puzzles.

I like Eye of the Beholder, the Gold Box games, Ultima, and if Final
Fantasy VII is anything to go by, I would like JRPGs as well. I guess
    I like most CRPG types.

I briefly played EOB3 on my IBM PS/2 model 30 286 10 Mhz PC in the early 90s. It
was SO long ago! I didn't like it much. I liked real-time games like Dune 2, Wolf3D, etc. back then. I still do like Diablo (1 & 2), still need to resume my
    Oblivion game from 2006!), etc.
