I started playing this a couple days ago as someone recommended it as a soulslike that had good magic.

I haven't seen any magic yet, but it's not bad so far. It's futuristic
with demons, which reminds me a bit of Doom, except it's obviously more
melee based. You do get some guns, but you use energy to fire them,
which is only restored by melee. Apparently magic uses energy too.

Graphics are a little rudimentary and mostly dark gray, I finally just
found a flashlight which helps. I like the aesthetic which seems
somewhat influenced by Alien and maybe Hellraiser.

It's got more platforming than I like, and more puzzles, but then so do
    all the Souls games.

I had to look up some things as I got stuck a couple times, but trying
to keep it relatively spoiler free. I managed to kill the first boss
before I looked up anything at least, first try as well, the second boss
    took me 3 tries.

do you mean Hellpoint: The Thespian Feast?
That seems to be a free demo/chapter of the game.

No, sorry if it wasn't obvious, it took me 3 years to get around to
trying the game, it's no longer free at this point. I just like
replying to the free notices so people who were here and picked it up
free can read of my play and decide if a game they got for free might be worthy of actually playing instead of just for the number.

    https://www.gog.com/en/game/hellpoint

Currently it's $35 which seems a little high for what it is, I'd
probably put it about $20 so far. It's good, but it's not quite on par
with even older dark souls (Well except DS2, but that's not hard to beat.)

I am getting tired of dying to gravity (or is it really being thrown
into the void?) which maybe be happening more than DS games. The
maze-like areas are starting to get a bit too much as well.
